We're finally benchmarking GPU performance in Linux, first using the Bazzite OS following thousands of community requests specifically for this operating system.

RIP Windows? Lol no, the tests all showed that at best Linux might get a few percent better performance if you have an AMD GPU, which virtually no one does, and at worst your games run significantly worse than on Windows, especially if you use any raytracing or run above 1080p, and you can’t play most of the big online MP games.
Yeah I mean clickbait titles gonna clickbait. Linux is great and steamos / proton are amazing. It's incredible how well they do perform, but let's not get ahead of ourselves lol.
Flip side, we are comparing a free and superior OS to windows, so I guess if you add up all the other things (assuming you like Linux) this is truly a RIP windows moment, but it depends on the audience. I.e. I'm happy to trade a few FPS to be free of Windows, but not necessarily all the AAA games, yet.
Windows is essentially free too btw. 99% of people don’t need to buy a license, an unactivated copy will do just fine.
Superior? I guess that’s debatable, definitely not an objective fact.
What most people will overlook just to go “yeah suck that windows!” is the GPU market share - Nvidia has 95%! That means that Linux will be significantly worse than Windows for 95% of people.
Is the significance in the room with us? All I'm seeing is marginal difference at this point.
Did you not look at the results when the user has a Nvidia GPU? Or when ray tracing is enabled? if you can even enable it on the Linux version, of course. Or when res goes above 1080p up to 4K?
Edit:
Sorry this isn’t the article I thought it was, which compared the Linux performance to the Windows performance. My bad. In that one by (iirc) these guys, it’s clear that Windows gives far superior results when using Nvidia gpus, and at worst is basically equal with Linux. I’ll try find that link.
Edit 2: wasn’t gamers nexus, but was very controlled and well done and actually tested multiple Linux gaming-oriented OS’s. Enjoy.

Pulling numbers out of thin air.
Also, I'm not seeing the "massive" here. But I'm not someone who sweats about framerates as long as they're stable and above 60fps. I have always been a mid-spec player.
Those Nvidia numbers aren't great, but in general, fuck Nvidia. They are getting better about their drivers, and the performance on Linux will continue to get better.
But me, I'm happy gaming on Linux, and so are lots of folks.
No, 95% is Nvidia market share.
20%+ difference is massive. 10% is massive to many pc players.
Just a drop in the ocean compared to the number of people who are happy gaming on windows, and these differences are making sure that Linux isn’t gaining any significant ground. Nvidia may as well be the only player in the GPU market, and with how poorly their gpus work on Linux, it’s a huge problem for Linux.
